Welcome
Charles Barwell with David Charles Barwell, 40, was elected one of the three Vice-Presidents of the National Conservative Convention in March 2007. In this voluntary role he represents the members of the Party on the Party’s Board, and serves as a member of the finance committee. Charles has special responsibility for four Regions of England: the North East, Eastern England, the South West and the West Midlands.

"I have served our Party for the past fifteen years at every level from Polling District Captain, to Constituency Chairman, from Local Election Agent and Constituency Election Director, to Regional Deputy Chairman. It was an enormous honour for me when senior members of the Party elected me to be a Vice-President of the Convention, and to represent all of us as volunteers as a member of the Party’s Board.

"Over the past eighteen years, I have met Conservatives from right across the country. I’ve been impressed by Conservative Future members, with their flair, enthusiasm and great sense of fun. I’ve worked for Councillors who deliver exceptional local services with unrecognised dedication. And I’ve felt the pain and anguish when hardworking candidates have failed to be elected. From the grassroots to the conference stage, I have encouraged new people to join us, new candidates to stand and have helped to raise money to fund our campaign.

“In business, I have been successful in managing investments for a cross-section of individuals, pension schemes and charities, and work for one of the UK’s largest banks. I hope to bring the efficiency, loyalty and customer service that I see in my business to the Board of the Party and help us all to deliver David Cameron into Downing Street as Prime Minister at the General Election.”

Working with the Board and all of you I focus on five areas:
  1. Maintaining a United Party
  2. Joined-up thinking at all levels of the Party
  3. Ensuring constituencies have the resources to deliver a strong campaign
  4. Training – ensuring that we are at the forefront of IT and new campaigning techniques
  5. Mentoring and advising candidates to ensure that they work effectively

“Above all, as a vice-president of the National Convention I bring real down to earth (Brummie) politics to the Board working to ensure that the whole party is ready for that General Election"

Isn't it good to be a Conservative again! After too many years when the political climate was against us, David Cameron is proving that we can change and that we are ready to win. But for David to make it to 10 Downing Street the Party in the country needs to be fit, healthy and ready to deliver the victory that Britain so badly needs. That's why I'm stood for election to the Party Board as a vice-president of the National Convention.

I've served the Party in every capacity from polling district captain to constituency chairman in a West Midlands target seat. I've been an area and regional officer guiding associations throughout the Heart of England, and continue to mentor and advise new candidates. For more than 20 years I've delivered leaflets, canvassed for votes, and raised the funds to run our campaign. In fact I've done just about everything that most Conservative members do. So, a member for the Board I seek to actively represent the key members of the Party.

I have Board level experience in other organisations. This means that I understand the major issues that are critical to managing a voluntary organisation like the Conservative Party. As a Board member of both The English-Speaking Union and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra I have played an influential part in recognising challenges and delivering success.

CampaigningI am particularly looking forward to welcoming Party members and our guests to my home city, Birmingham, for the Party Conference in September this year, and again in 2010. We have the best conference facilities in Europe here, and I am sure we will have an exceptional Conservative Party Conference in a new vibrant location.

I'm keen to know what you think are the key issues for the Conservative Party now. Those will be the themes that you need me to focus on as your Board member.

You can find out more about me on this website, and I would be delighted to hear from you. You can send me a message on my contacts page.
