Charles Barwell is a vice-president of the National Convention of the Conservative Party.
A former Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party in the West Midlands Region, he was Constituency Chairman in Birmingham Edgbaston for three years until 2002. A private banker with Barclays Wealth (formerly Gerrard), Charles was born in Birmingham, and educated in Worcestershire, and Connecticut USA. He was an undergraduate at the University of Manchester, and was a postgraduate at the University of Birmingham Business School.

His outside interests are considerable and include crewing a sailing boat round Ireland, Golf, he has a handicap 12, education, he is a Governor of St Paul's RC School for Girls, and music. Charles is a member of the Board of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and sings in the CBSO chorus with whom he has performed at the BBC Proms, in Berlin, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
Over two nights in November 2006 and again in 2007 Charles raised nearly £6000 for a homelessness social enterprise by spending two very wet and windy nights sleeping out on the streets of Birmingham. St Basils Centre helps 4000 young people each year who society has overlooked by giving them a hand up rather than a hand out.
