Union Hypocrisy from Gordon Brown

Posted by: Charles Barwell on

It's quite amazing how suddenly this week Gordon Brown has tried to cast himself as a Unionist, and has shrouded himself in the Union Flag.

Whilst most of us celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the Act of Union, an Act that made Britain truly great, noone has done more to destroy it than this Labour government.

The division of the United Kingdom into a series of regions in accordance with some model of bureacratic nonsense issued from Brussels is a disaster. The formation of a Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh and a Welsh Assembly in Cardiff, filled largely with another tier of incompetent political nobodies who are paid far more than most of them could hope to earn in the private sector, has inevitably caused the break-up of the United Kingdom.

We did not need a parliament in Scotland. And nor did we need an assembly in Wales. Both cost British taxpayers far more than they are worth. Both cause political injustice as Scottish and Welsh MPs still vote on English laws, propping up this incompetent government in the House of Commons.

Yet English MPs have no such recourse in Wales or Scotland.

The West Lothian Question used to be just that. A question. Gordon Brown and new Labour have made it a reality.

So the choice is clear. Either we have English votes for English laws from Westminster. Or we have independence for England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Or, we abolish the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly, and rebuild the Union.

I vote for the Union.
