Charles Barwell
Charles Barwell with David Charles Barwell, 42, was President of the National Conservative Convention serving on the Party's Board from 20007 to 2011, and chaired the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham in October 2010. He was first elected as one of three Vice-Presidents of the National Conservative Convention in March 2007. In this voluntary role he represented the grassroots members of the Party on the Party’s Board, and serves as a chairman of the Party's Finance and Audit Committee.

"I have served our Party for the over twenty years at every level from Polling District Captain, to Constituency Chairman, from Local Election Agent and Constituency Election Director, to Regional Deputy Chairman. It was an enormous honour for me in February 2010 when senior members of the Party elected me to be President of the National Conservative Convention, which is the Party's parliament, to represent all of us as volunteers as a member of the Party’s Board.”

"Over the past twenty years, I have met Conservatives from right across the country. I’ve been impressed by Conservative Future members, with their flair, enthusiasm and great sense of fun. I’ve worked for Councillors who deliver exceptional local services with unrecognised dedication. And I’ve felt the pain and anguish when hardworking candidates have failed to be elected. From the grassroots to the conference stage, I have, connected politicians with hard-working people, encouraged new people to join us, new candidates to stand and have helped to raise money to fund our campaign.

“In business, I manage investments and lending for a cross-section of individuals, businesses, charities and pension schemes, and work for one of the UK’s largest banks. I have sought to apply the efficiency, loyalty and customer service that I see in my business to the Board of the Party. I am so proud that the hard work and efficiency of so many Conservatives from right across the country helped us to ensure that David Cameron was elected the first Conservative Prime Minister this century at the General Election last year.”

“Above all, as President of the National Convention it was my aim to bring real down to earth (Brummie) politics to the Board working to ensure that the whole party was ready for the General Election. I particularly enjoyed welcoming activists, supporters, parliamentarians, exhibitors and the media to the Party Conference in my home city of Birmingham in October 2010, for what was the Conservative's biggest and best conference ever."

I have a record of service in the West Midlands. Over the past six years I have been an elected voluntary Trustee of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with responsibility for finance. So I help oversee the £9 million budget, and was one of the panel who recruited the CBSO's new conductor and music director, Andris Nelsons. Music and its impact on our society have always been a key part of my life, and we are so fortunate to have one of the world’s great symphony orchestras, the CBSO, here in the West Midlands.

I’m also a school governor for St Paul’s RC Girl’s School in Birmingham. And I have helped raise funds for several charities including St Basils’s which works with young people threatened by homelessness, the English-Speaking Union, and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
